Boko Haram has attacked a village near Maiduguri

Contrary to the report by the Nigerian army that the boko haram insurgents have been trapped in Sambisa forest, the group has stormed a village in Borno state and slit throats of four women. – The local vigilantes supposed that the insurgents came after the men, but unable to find them killed their wifes. Local vigilantes, who are helping Nigerian army, have said that the deadly Boko Haram sect stormed a village near Maiduguri, killing at least four women. AFP reports that 14 Boko Haram fighters on seven motorcycles raided Mairari village, 80 kilometres from the Borno state capital, on June 10, Friday and took four women from their housed and slit their throats. The victims were aged between 27 and 45. “They went into four homes while residents were breaking their fast around 7:00 pm, brought out the four women and slaughtered them,” Babakura Kolo, a vigilante in Maiduguri told reporters. “We believe the killings were targeted, the gunmen...

New militant group JNDLF ceases fire

The new militant group Joint Niger Delta Liberation Force (JNDLF), which claimed affiliation with Niger Delta Avengers, has announced ceasefire, TheCable reports. The militants had earlier vowed to launch six missiles in the region and to also lock down Nigeria’s airspace, but it said it resolved to do otherwise after the federal government proposed talks. Meanwhile, the group said government would have to follow its demand if it wants the peace to be continued. JNDLF listed demands that comprised the immediate release of former national security adviser Sambo Dasuki, setback of the order to freeze the bank accounts of the former militant leader Tompolo, formation of Matitime University in Okerenkoko, Delta state and others. Buhari set to arrive Nigeria

There has been a report that the UK doctors, who examined President Muhammadu Buhari’s ear infection, have allowed him to return to Nigeria on Thursday, June 16. A source in London revealed that the doctors had also prescribed a chest X-ray for President Buhari to find the cause of his continual cough. The result of the X-ray however was not disclosed to the president. The presidential source also revealed that President Buhari spent a day at a hospital in the capital of Great Britain where he did a series of tests to determine the nature of his ear disorder and a course of treatment and will leave London for Abuja next week. Bakassi strike force pleads with NDA

A group of militants in Akwa-Cross region under the aegis of Bakassi Strike Force has called on the federal government to listen to the agitations of the Niger Delta Avengers. The Bakassi Strike Force sent a message to the Niger Delta Avengers, condemning the  incessant bombing of oil pipelines in the oil rich Niger Delta region by the Avengers, Channels TV reports. Speaking at Esuk Mba, in Akpabuyo local government area of Cross River state, Simple Benjamin, the leader of the group, advised the government to adopt the approach of the American Ambassador to Nigeria who is an advocate for dialogue as war alone cannot solve their problems in tackling the issue. NEW ATTACK BY MILITANTS

Militants have continued their bombing campaign of oil and gas facilities in the Niger Delta region with another attack on a facility suspected to belong to Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC). Niger Delta Militants have vowed to carry out more attacks on oil and gas installations in defiance to the federal government’s order for a cease fire. The latest attack, according to Vanguard occurred around Ogidigben, Warri south west local in Delta state, on Thursday evening, June 9. DASUKI: Slammed by FG on sophisticated weapons importation

 Col Sambo Dasuki (rtd), former national security adviser (NSA) to former president Goodluck Jonathan has been accused of importing unaccounted highly sophisticated weapons into the country.  The accusation was brought up by the federal government on Wednesday, June 8 at a Federal High Court sit­ting in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory. According to the government, the weapons are large cache of arms and ammunition. Boko Haram: Nigerian army surrounds Sambisa forest

The Nigerian army has said that the deadly Boko Haram sect is currently locked in Sambisa forest, the notorious enclave of the insurgents. The terrorists reportedly cannot come out to launch attack on the rest of the nation. The commander of the counter-insurgency operation in the north-east (Operation Lafiya Dole), Maj. Gen. Lucky Irabor said this while addressing the conference on the successes in the war against the Boko Haram fighters. He said the forest is completely surrounded by the Nigerian soldiers and there is no escape for any insurgents still holed up there. The commander added that it has become impossible for the Boko Haram members still holed up in the Sambisa forest to get out or for them to have access to civilization to get any supply. New militant group makes demands

The new militant group, Ultimate Warriors of Niger Delta (UWND), which spoke for the very first time on Wednesday, June 8 also demanded that the federal government allow the $16 billion export processing zone otherwise called Delta Gas City project begin operations in earnest. It, however, gave the government a two-week ultimatum to ensure that their demands were adequately met for a lasting ceasefire in the region. Spokesperson of Ultimate Warrior, as it chose to be addressed, Sibiri Taiowoh, in a statement said if the FG truly wants peace in the region, it should award 60 per cent oil bloc to indigenous people from the region as its primary demand for a ceasefire. MASSOB issues warning to Anambra State government

The Uchenna Madu led faction of the Movement for the Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has warned the government of Anambra state to stop dragging the name of MASSOB or Biafra to the mud through the spreading destructive rumour. MASSOB protests have become more frequent and vocal in recent times. The pro-Biafra group reacting to rumour that Governor Willie Obiano had induced MASSOB with monetary leverage to compromise its activities and the struggle for Biafra actualization urged the Anambra state government not to link it with acts capable of undermining the integrity of the movement and Igbo people. FG conducts investigation on Boko Haram sponsorship

The Nigerian government in Abuja on Tuesday, June 7, has said it will begin investigation on the sponsors of Boko Haram insurgency in the country. Speaking to lawyers during a protest against the activities of Boko Haram in the country, the attorney general of the federation and minister of justice, Abubakar Malami said the federal government will unravel the root cause of insurgency in Nigeria soon. Malami said a judicial commission of inquiry will established to investigate how insurgency found its way into Nigeria. Representing the minister, the director in charge of general services, Lola Uket assured the protesting lawyers that the minister will act fast on their demands.

Boko Haram storms Kannama in search of food

Boko Haram insurgents have attacked the border town of Kannama in the northern part of Yobe state Nigeria. Kannama which is close to the Niger border with Nigeria was attacked on Monday, June 6 on the first day of the holy month of Ramadan, The Nation reports. Security sources who confirmed the attack said the insurgents failed in their attempt to over run the town, adding that no life was lost. However, the state police commissioner Chika Abubakar Maidama said that three of his men who were hospitalized at the Geidam General Hospital following the attacks have been discharged. He said the insurgents carted away with food items and other valuables during the attack. FG orders the withdrawal of the military from Niger Delta

Following recent bombings by militants in the Niger-Delta region of Nigeria, the federal government has ordered immediate withdrawal of military from the zone. This was arrived at a meeting summoned on the instruction of President Muhammadu Buhari, the federal government and Niger Delta states . Disclosing this at the end of the meeting, Delta State Ifeanyi Okowa who briefed state house correspondents said the meeting identified the need for synergy between the federal and the state governments as a very important step going forward. South-south Governors make demands to stop NDA

Governors of the South-South region who met with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the State House today called for the majority of corruption cases in the region to be dropped by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Sahara Reporters has reported. The meeting was attended by the governors of Edo, Ondo, Delta, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Bayelsa and Abia states, as well as the deputy governor of Cross River state. MEND warns communities harbouring NDA

Amid heightened tension in the Niger Delta, the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) has warned communities harbouring members of the Niger Delta Avengers to immediately desist from it. The group also commended President Muhammadu Buhari for taking a first step in the clean up of Ogoniland ravaged by oil exploration. Daily Post reports that the former militant group made this demand and commendation in a statement by its spokesperson, Jomo Gbomo. The group criticized former President Goodluck Jonathan saying even though he is from the Niger Delta, his six years in office did not benefit Ogoni. Stampede in Choba community

At about 8p.m last night, June 6, there was stampede in Choba community and as at 9p.m, the streets were deserted. The reason for the stampede is not yet known but some people running claimed they heard sporadic gunshots. A lot of people got injured while others lost valuables in the process of running. As the level of security in the state has dropped to the bearest minimum, people run whenever they see others running without actually knowing why or from where the threat is coming.

President Buhari takes 10 days time off to seek medical attention

It's no longer news that President Buhari is sick as a result of an ear infection in his left ear and so has resorted to a 10 day off duty to enable him see a doctor abroad.  This was contained in a statement by Femi Adesina, the presidential spokesman. It reads: “President Muhammadu Buhari will take 10 days off and travel to London on Monday June 6th to rest. “During the holiday, he will see an E.N.T. specialist for a persistent ear infection." “The president was examined by his personal physician and an E.N.T specialist in Abuja and was treated. Both Nigerian doctors recommended further evaluation purely as a precaution.” Earlier reports stated that Buhari has an infection in his left ear, otherwise called Meniere Disease, a challenge which has drastically reduced his outings in the last one week. CULTISM: 19 people feared dead in Aluu community

Nineteen people were killed by gunmen suspected to be cultist in Aluu community in Ikwerre Local Government Area and Obite community in Etche council area of Rivers state. The Punch reports that two rival cult groups invaded the communities on Saturday, June 4, and engaged each other in a free-for-all. The gunmen, believed to be of members of Greenlanders cult, invaded Aluu in reprisal against a rival group, Icelanders and killed 15 people, including a nursing mother. Also killed was a naval officer, who was among the Joint Task Force team that went to the area to bring the situation under control. The gunmen reportedly killed several people in Omuoda village and four others suspected to be cultists in Omuahunwo village. MASSOB pledges unflinching support to NDA

The Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) pledged its total allegiance to the Niger Delta Avengers on Saturday, along with other pro-Biafra groups operating in the Niger Delta region, the Daily Post has reported. The Niger Delta Avengers has carried out a series of bombings in the Niger Delta region and also threatened to assassinate President Muhammadu Buhari if he visited Ogoniland in Rivers state.
