DSS arrests suspected NDA militants

Nigeria’s secret police, Department of State Services (DSS) says it has arrested some suspected Niger Delta Avengers (NDA) militants. According to the secret service, one Selky Torughedi, a suspected member of NDA and associate of Tompolo, was arrested for planning to assassinate a serving military officer in Kaduna state. “In a bid to stem the activities of vandals in the Niger Delta, this service effected the arrest of Selky Kile Torughedi, on 17th June, 2016, in Calabar, Cross River state,” the DSS said in the statement issued by Tony Opuiyo. “Torughedi is an ex-militant and suspected member of the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA), and was arrested for planning to assassinate one MB Yahaya, a serving military officer. “Torughedi, who is a close associate of Government Ekpemupolo (aka Tompolo), had already conducted surveillance at the residence of Yahaya in Kaduna, preparatory to his plot when he was intercepted. Rebuilding Niger Delta is my Priority – Buhari pleads

President Muhammadu Buhari has promised to use the country’s resources judiciously to develop the nation and rebuild the volatile Niger Delta region, based on the policies initiated by the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua. Buhari spoke on Thursday when a delegation of Ni­ger Delta Dialogue and Contact Group, led by His Royal Highness, King Alfred Di­ette-Spiff, the Amanyanabo of Twon Brass, Bayelsa State, visited him at the Presiden­tial Villa, Abuja. Sierra Leone Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria Rtd. Major General Nelson Williams has been kidnapped in Nigeria. According to Embassy sources in Nigeria, He was kidnapped yesterday. “He left the Sierra Leone mission in Abuja and went to attend a military graduation ceremony in Kaduna. At 4am this morning, the embassy accountant received a strange phone call. It was the kidnappers. They placed Nelson-Williams on the line and after he identified himself to the accountant, the Kidnappers came back on the line and informed he was in their custody and they had kidnapped him and wanted a ransom demand of around 44 million Naira (about $150,000).”, the Embassy sources said. The kidnappers have now called the Embassy twice this morning threatening unsavory outcome if their ransom demand is not met. Boko Haram suicide bombing leaves 11 dead and many injured

A provincial governor in Cameroon has said that the suicide attack by the Boko Haram insurgents killed 11 people while many others sustained different wounds. The governor warned civilians not to break special security measures meant at preventing such attacks. A security source said the suspected insurgent blew himself up in the town of Djakana near the Nigerian border overnight. He said: “Seven people were killed immediately, including the bomber.” The source added that most of the victims were members of a local vigilante group charged with hunting down Boko Haram members. “They were gathered in a video room when the attacker entered and triggered his explosives,” he added. Midjiyawa Bakari, the governor of the region, told reporters that 11 people had died and four had been wounded. Yoruba elders stand against militant groups

Yoruba elders under the aegis of the Yoruba Unity Forum (YUF) have reacted to the recent attacks by Niger Delta militants in the south west region and warned that the senseless attacks must stop. There have been spates of attack from gunmen suspected to be militants who reportedly gained entrance into Lagos through the waterways from the Niger Delta creeks. The most recent attack was in Ikorodu where about 30 people reportedly died after the militants invaded the community. Vanguard reports that the Yoruba socio-cultural group decried the activities of Fulani herdsmen, militants and kidnappers who have conducted attacks in Yorubaland. A new militant group, the Niger Delta Red Squad (NDRS), which has carried out attacks on oil facilities in Imo state, has threatened to unleash more attacks in the future. In the current threat by the group, signed by one General Don Wannie, the militants threatened to attack some government and oil facilities in Imo state. According to Vanguard, the group fumed that oil producing communities have nothing to show for the many years of oil exploration and exploitation. “Oil companies started operation in our community since 1957, but up till date, we have nothing to show as benefit. One month old baby gets penis cut off by step mom

A 22-year-old woman named Rabiu Bara’atu was arraigned before a Niger state magistrate court on Monday, June 27 for allegedly cutting off the penis of her rival’s one-month-old baby named Buhari. Rabiu Bara’atu reportedly cut-off her rival’s son just to get back at her husband. Bara’atu allegedly cut off Buhari’s penis at their home in Kuta town, Shiroro Local Government Area of the state on June 21 after having been married to her husband, Mohammed Rabiu, for seven years, without a child. In her bid to punish her husband for marrying a second wife, she allegedly cut off the baby’s penis, the Punch reports.
