Father of three commits suicide
A landlord in Ido Ose community in Ona Ara Local Government Area of Ibadan, Mr. Popoola Adepoju, allegedly committed suicide by hanging. The 48-year-old man, who lived at House 7, Ayegbami Zone 7, was said to be an ex-staff of the defunct National Electric Power Authority, NEPA.
The father of three children reportedly hanged himself in his room after ensuring his children and wife had gone out. His wife returned in the evening to see his body hanging from the ceiling fan in their room. Although police have begun investigation to unravel the actual cause of the death, the wife hinted that her husband was laid off two years ago and since then it had been hard to fend for the family.
He was said to have left a suicide note, which the family reluctantly released to the General Chairman of the Idi Ose community, Chief Taiwo Alimi. After a formal report at Akanran Police Division, the Divisional Police Officer, Aliko Dankoli, reportedly gave them permission to bury the deceased, who was said to be a member of Four Square Church.
A member of his church described late Adepoju as a devout Christian, who was always offered good suggestions whenever the Welfare Committee of the zone met. He said: “What could have informed his action is astonishing to us. We were together at the early morning service at our church on Monday.
“We usually have such service on the first, second and third of every month. When I saw him last on Monday evening after the service, he never gave sign that he was going to commit suicide. It was the last thing anybody around here could have imagined.”
Vanguard further gathered that the man had tried effortlessly to sell his Honda car for N250,000, but did not get a buyer. Chief Alimi, while speaking with newsmen said: “We thank God that the death was not caused by anybody. We have accepted the incident with equanimity and faith in God. “I pray that God should be with the family of the deceased, as well as the entire residents of Idi Ose.”
