FLOOD: 5,300 houses destroyed in Kano State

Kano State Relief and Emergency Agency on Tuesday confirmed that at least 5,300 houses were destroyed by flood in six Local Government Areas of Kano State.

Executive Secretary of SREA, Aliyu Bashir, who confirmed the disaster in Kano said, the affected Local Government Areas include, Bebeji, Dawakin Kudu, Kiru Shanono, Bagwai and Garun Mallam.

In Dawakin Kudu, over 2,300 houses were affected while not less than 600 houses in each of the remaining five areas were also destroyed by the flood.

Bashir disclosed that officials of the agency had undertaken an assessment visit to all the affected areas, so as to determine the extent of damage caused by the flood.

Also, he revealed that the State Government will come to their aid of the victims as an interim measure, as soon as the Agency concludes and submits its report.

PRISON BREAK: 15 inmates escape from Nsukka prison

No fewer than 15 inmates were believed to have escaped from Nsukka Prison in Enugu state in a jail-break that occurred on Tuesday night. A reliable source at the prison who pleaded anonymity said on Wednesday that the inmates broke their cells and scaled over the perimeter fence. “The inmates carefully opened their cells and scaled the perimeter fence of the prisons. “Before prison officials on night duty knew what was happening, about 15 inmates had escaped,” the source said. 3 persons confirmed dead in Akokwa Imo State

DSP Andrew Enwerem, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) who confirmed the incident in a chat with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Owerri, said some others sustained injuries. He explained that an unidentified man, said to be from the northern part of Nigeria, had run amok and killed a girl and a woman and thereafter killed himself.
