FEMALE POLICE SERGEANT ABDUCTED IN ENUGU STATE

Hightened tension mounts in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area, Enugu state over the weekend as kidnappers launched fresh operation along the lonely Nsukka/Adani expressway, abducted a female police sergent attached to Udenu police division of the Enugu state police command.

It was gathered that the female police sergent who is a widow had gone to Adani in company of other people with a private Mitsubushi Space wagon car to procure locally processed Adani rice only to be abducted along Nkpunato, Hilltop primary school, Nkpologwu while returning back to her division after the local shopping at Adani.

The female police sergent identified simply as Lare Areh was abducted when the vehicle allegedly developed mechanical fault along Nkpologwu while attempts to manually put it in order to continue the journey, the kidnappers emerged from the bush, pulled out guns and machets and ordered the four occupants of the vehicle to lie face down after firing gun shots into the air then dragged the female police sergent into the bush around 6pm while others scampered into a nearby village for safety.

PRISON BREAK: 15 inmates escape from Nsukka prison

No fewer than 15 inmates were believed to have escaped from Nsukka Prison in Enugu state in a jail-break that occurred on Tuesday night. A reliable source at the prison who pleaded anonymity said on Wednesday that the inmates broke their cells and scaled over the perimeter fence. “The inmates carefully opened their cells and scaled the perimeter fence of the prisons. “Before prison officials on night duty knew what was happening, about 15 inmates had escaped,” the source said. 3 persons confirmed dead in Akokwa Imo State

DSP Andrew Enwerem, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) who confirmed the incident in a chat with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Owerri, said some others sustained injuries. He explained that an unidentified man, said to be from the northern part of Nigeria, had run amok and killed a girl and a woman and thereafter killed himself.
